OUTDOOR LIVING SPACE FOR YOUR BACK YARD OR PORCH

Black rocking chairs add contrast to a very neutral color palette with a POP of color from the red pillows. Ferns are easy to maintain during the summer and just need water!

When constructing a porch, include visually stimulating balusters (posts) supported by the balustrade (railing).

A porch is a covered entryway into the home which can also function as an outdoor area for entertaining, neighbor gatherings or relaxing. This brick home has been painted a robin's egg blue with white trim with a pop of color from the red door.

A screened in porch keeps those annoying bugs out. This porch is an outdoor extension of the home. Hang a hammock, create a focal point with baker's rack filled with plants and interesting knick knacks.

The wonderful thing about the porch: it covers and protects your outdoor furniture from the rain. This extra deep porch can accommodate many furniture pieces including a chaise lounge.

Classic Adirondack chairs grace this porch with matching footstools. The Adirondack can now be purchased at your local hardware store in a variety of colors. The original chair was comprised of wood, now there is a lighter weight version made out of plastic.

This side porch was included in the home's original design. It is actually an outdoor room complete with lamps, cushy chairs and sofa. During the warm months, pictures or decorative items can be hung on the exterior walls of the home.

Curb appeal is important to your home. Stone steps lead up to this enticing porch. The balance of color between white, black and red is symmetrical, so important for this classic home. Adding a transom window above the front door adds extra light into the home with visual stimulation. Front door doesn’t look so “flat” anymore.

A porch doesn’t have to be large to be amazing! This porch is bordered by a short white picket fence and brick path to the door. White lattice trellis on wall and on top of porch subtly repeats the picket fence pattern. It is very important to keep items in portion. One can visually see all the decorative elements of the porch without having to “look over” the fence.

READY TO ADOPT A PET? JUNE IS NATIONAL CAT ADOPTION MONTH

The American Humane Society has designated the entire month of June as NATIONAL CAT ADOPTION MONTH.
Please consider adopting a cat from your local shelter. There are approximately over 2 million cats ready to be adopted in shelters located across the United States. Dogs waiting to be adopted in shelters are at 1 million.
I rescued my 1st Siamese cat when I was 11 years old. I have since rescued 5 more Siamese cats. Our family consists of 4 cats in our home. They all get along and have their own personalities.
My last rescue was Sir Lancelot Longtail. I found him on the Siamese Rescue website: http://www.siameserescue.org/
Cats are misunderstood and really make very good companions.
Cats are very independant and smart. They are hunters and like to stalk.
A cat tree (under ($100) is important for them to jump and view the world from the top.
When adopting, please spend some time with the cat to make sure the cat's and your personality will bond.
Shelters will give you advice on how to take of your cat.
Send me pics of your newbie!
Enjoy and love your feline ;)!

Sir Lancelot Longtail rescued December 9, 2011.
